Fall 16 x 20 Oblong Trivet

This listing includes a large oblong trivet that was handmade right here at 1840 Farm.  This trivet measures 15.5" wide by 20" long. 

These larger trivets are perfect for Thanksgiving feasts, holiday dinners, and family gatherings throughout the year. They are large enough to set underneath big casserole dishes (the casserole in the photo is a 9x13), multiple serving dishes, or just to add a bit of color and texture to your table. 

These trivets are much larger than any we have made before. That means they take much longer to stitch. So, I had a bit of extra time when stitching them into shape to think while I was settled in at the sewing machine.

As I watched these trivets turn round and round at the sewing machine, I thought about the family gatherings that they might be a part of. I smiled thinking about memories that would be made while gathered together at family tables. I hoped that they would become a part of your family traditions.

I know that not everyone is fortunate enough to gather at large tables with ample food to serve. While I donate to our local food bank and food drives, I always find myself wishing that there was more that I could do to help those who live with food insecurity and hunger.

I have always liked the idea that when a person has enough, they should share what they have instead of guarding it.  I like the thought of “building a bigger table” so that you can invite others in to share what you have to offer.

We don’t make tables here at 1840 Farm, so I can’t literally build a bigger table. But we do make all sorts of handmade pieces for your tables. So, we made a bigger trivet for your tables instead.

For every one of our bigger trivets we sell, we will make a donation to a charitable organization that works to help those who live with food insecurity. I hope that together, we can make a difference and that you’ll see these pieces on your tables and know that you have helped to make life just a little better for someone else’s family.

I love the idea that the products my family makes here at the farmhouse will be invited to family dinners at your house. It’s such a warm idea that our connection between the farmhouse and your house can help make the world a bit kinder in houses all throughout the world.

Our fabric items can be cleaned by spot washing or in the gentle cycle of your washing machine.  Gently reshape the trivet while still damp and allow to air dry. 

Trivets are not fire or flameproof.  They are constructed of cording, fabric, and thread.  They should not be placed in the microwave, oven, or directly over an open flame or hot burner.  We find them to be an excellent buffer between a hot cooking pan and our kitchen counter or table.  As they are made using natural materials, they will eventually conduct some heat, especially when used under extreme conditions.  Care should be taken to ensure that they are not damaged and that the surfaces beneath them are adequately protected.
